My Bride is a Mermaid

Posted by

My Bride is a Mermaid was once locally aired on a local channel here in our country, but my boyfriend only mentioned it. Until one day, I realised there was a copy on my HDD given by my best friend so I was finally able to watch it! Since this has been over a month ago, I don’t think I’d still be able to recall much details but I surely can recall the feelings.

What would you do if one day, you had no choice but to marry a mermaid?

Seto no Hanayome (My Bride is a Mermaid) is a story about a boy named Nagasumi Michishio who is forced to marry beautiful Sun Seto, mermaid. But Sun isn’t just your typical mermaid because she comes from a family of a notorious Yakuza/Gang of mermaids – the Seto Clan.

It was all after Sun saves Nagasumi from drowning – she couldn’t just let him die because of her oath and belief that “honor among thieves is honor under the seas” and thus, giving her contact with Nagasumi; This however is not prohibited in mermaid law. In mermaid law, they’re to kill either the human or the mermaid involved just so their secret of being mermaids won’t go out.

This leaves Nagasumi no choice as no one ever wants death, what would be so bad having a mermaid fiance? After all, she’s beautiful and kind and…from a notorious Seto Clan?!

First Impressions:

I was already looking forward to watching it after my boyfriend told me about it long ago. The start was pretty awkward but nice yet at the first episode I was already laughing my heart out because of how funny the characters are. It’s an AA!

Plot:

The story is like your little mermaid story come true and with many twists. Not only does the story center around the main characters but many other of their friends but not leaving the main theme. It’s about real kindness and real beauty – most of all, friendship that captures the heart of the this anime’s fans/watchers.

Overall:

Overall this anime is pretty nice for a good laugh and some inspiration for  the teens. What I didn’t like however is the ending as it seemed too rush. I liked the characters very much though, they all have something that makes them stand-out.
